If you don't take risks, you don't live, and if you live, then you take risks.\u201d \u2013 Carl Jung<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In our daily lives, we are often encouraged to wait for the \u201cright moment\u201d before taking risks in our lives. We look for the sign that will show us when we are ready to move forward. However, this waiting often distances us from decision-making and taking risks. In this article, we will examine the idea that <strong>the decision to take risks in our lives does not require an external sign of our readiness, but can be an internal process that stems from our inner world.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many of us postpone our decisions waiting for the <strong>feeling of \u201creadiness\u201d<\/strong> to appear. However, this approach can hold us back and delay taking risks in life. Potentially, the decision to take risks may be better connected to our internal preparation and self-awareness, rather than waiting for external conditions to change.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In this article, we will examine the importance of internal self-assessment and the recognition of our strengths and weaknesses before taking risks. We will see how this internal process can guide and strengthen our decision, rather than holding us back. We will also examine <strong>how taking risks can contribute to our personal growth and lead to significant changes in our lives.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>The decision as an act of risk<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>The fear of failure is often the only thing that stands between us and success.<\/em>\u201d \u2013 Erik Erikson<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In our lives, the decisions we make often represent acts of risk. Regardless of the nature of the decision, it is usually associated with potential consequences and the <strong>fear of the unpredictable<\/strong>. Some decisions may seem simple and safe, such as choosing our meal, while others may be much more important, such as choosing our career or our relationship.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Risk is inevitable when it comes to decisions, regardless of size. Every choice involves probabilities and corresponding consequences<\/strong>. Even simple daily decisions can have an impact on our lives. For example, choosing to go for a walk instead of staying on the couch can lead to an unexpected encounter, while a decision to change jobs can affect our career.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Decisions, therefore, signify the taking of risks, even if this is not always obvious.&nbsp; <strong>Although it is human for risk to involve anxiety, this cannot be avoided. In fact, our lives are full of risks and decisions with which we constantly flirt.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When we decide to take a risk or proceed with a specific choice, a chain reaction is often created. This means that we may unexpectedly reject other choices or opportunities that are available. This phenomenon is associated with the loss of opportunities. <strong>When we say \u201cyes\u201d to a specific path, doubts arise about the alternative routes we have.<\/strong> This may be due to the fear of the unknown or the need to focus on the current choice. In some cases, this chain reaction can lead to doubt or the fear of loss, but it can also strengthen our determination to walk the chosen path. <strong>Every \u201cyes\u201d creates a number of \u201cnos\u201d.<\/strong> <strong>If you decide to run a marathon, you are saying \u201cyes\u201d to the marathon and no to late nights\u2026 Very often, our decisiveness is not paralyzed by the \u201cyeses\u201d (and the anxiety about how we will manage them) but by the fear of losing what the \u201cnos\u201d entail.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Internal preparation<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The decision to take risks in our lives does not simply start with choosing the moment or the method. It requires internal preparation and self-awareness. <strong>Self-awareness is key in the decision-making process and in taking risks.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Before making any decision, we must understand ourselves deeply. This means recognizing our weaknesses and strengths, our values and beliefs, as well as our fears.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>With self-awareness as our support and beacon, we can evaluate how a specific decision aligns with our desires and goals.<\/strong> This allows us to be more conscious about whether a specific decision meets our needs and our personal happiness. <strong>Questions such as:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Can I afford to lose everything that my decision entails? (e.g., late nights out with friends if I decide to run a marathon?)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>What are my true reasons for making this decision? (is it a desire springing from the depths of my authentic self or from the persona I built through my socialization?) can help on the journey of goal-setting and decision-making.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Dealing with external factors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>Risk is the gateway to communication with oneself and others. It is the journey that brings us into contact with our true desires and capabilities<\/em>.\u201d \u2013 Rollo May<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When it comes to decision-making, external factors can exert a significant influence on how we perceive and react to our various choices. <strong>The pressures and expectations of others can dictate the course of our decisions and affect the choices we make<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Often, we feel the pressure from society, family, friends, and colleagues to make specific decisions that meet their expectations. <strong>It is important to recognize that others may have different views and expectations for us, but this should not dictate our own decisions.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>To face this challenge, we must develop self-awareness and stay true to our own values and goals.<\/strong> <strong>If we understand what is truly important to us, then we can make decisions that correspond to our personal happiness, regardless of the pressures exerted by others.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition, communication with others can be important during decision-making. We can express our views and concerns, but also listen to the views of others. <strong>Open communication can help in understanding and accepting different viewpoints, while allowing each person to make the final decision that satisfies them, something we observe in psychotherapy groups.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Caution, of course, is needed because we now have research data showing that when we share our goals extensively with others, their enthusiasm and praise (e.g., \u201cwell done Harry, I always believed you could write a book!\u201d) are capable of releasing enough dopamine that nothing else remains to motivate us toward the goal. The same happens with the famous vision boards, where when you see your goal visualized on a board every day, the brain experiences it as real and therefore has no reason to motivate you to make it a reality. It is of utmost importance to activate the part of your brain that seeks and finds solutions in your environment, but in moderation\u2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">&nbsp;<strong>Risk-taking and personal growth<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201c<em>Risk-taking is the gateway to growth and
