Sexual intimacy thins out, caresses decrease, and sex seems to have been put on hold. Then, the void fills with <strong>guilt<\/strong>, <strong>guilt<\/strong>, or a fear that \u00absomething is wrong with us\u00bb.<br><strong>Before you rush to read this as \u201cthe end\u201d, it is worth looking at what this silence is actually trying to say.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Many people describe it as an \u201cinvisible distance\u201d. There isn't always a huge fight, but there is a permanent \u00abnot now\u00bb, a body that doesn't \u201crespond\u201d, or a mental fatigue that leaves no room for desire.<br><strong>The same \u201csilence\u201d, of course, can mean completely different things, and that is usually where the hope lies.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Low desire and distress around sex are not uncommon experiences. In major studies, quite a few people report a reduced interest in sex for long periods, while intense <strong>distress<\/strong> (the \u201cpain\u201d) is not always a given. This is important: you don't need to measure the relationship with numbers. You need to see <strong>if this is pushing you apart<\/strong>, <strong>how<\/strong>, and <strong>why<\/strong>.<br><strong>To make this clear, we will make a simple distinction that changes the whole landscape.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Low desire: what it means and what it doesn't mean<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Low desire is not an automatic sign of a lack of love or an \u201cend\u201d. Desire is sensitive: it is affected by the body, stress, sleep, self-image, history, and also by how safe the emotional climate is within the relationship.<br><strong>This means that, before we \u201cfix\u201d something, we first need to understand what is putting pressure on it.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For many people, desire does not always appear \u201con its own\u201d. It can emerge <strong>through context<\/strong>: time, tenderness, emotional connection, and a sense that \u00abI can be here without being judged\u00bb.<br><strong>And this is where the core question comes in: is it the context of life that is narrowing or the context of the relationship?;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Two main categories of factors<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol start=\"1\" class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>External factors<\/strong> (life\/body\/obligations).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Relational factors<\/strong> (dynamics\/communication\/safety).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This distinction is not about finding someone to \u201cblame\u201d. It is to identify <strong>where care is needed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>External factors: when the body and life get in the way<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In many cases, low mood is not due to the relationship, but to the rest of the life system:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hormonal or physical difficulties<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Mood difficulties, anxiety, traumatic experiences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Medication side effects<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Chronic fatigue, insomnia, excessive stress<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Parenting responsibilities and burnout<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Negative body image<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here is a truth that takes a weight off your shoulders: desire is not a \u201cduty\u201d. It is the reaction of a system looking for <strong>\u03b5\u03bd\u03ad\u03c1\u03b3\u03b5\u03b9\u03b1<\/strong>, <strong>\u03c7\u03ce\u03c1\u03bf<\/strong> and a <strong>safety<\/strong>.
