It can manifest in the breath, in muscle tension, in the difficulty to trust, in the need for control, in the sense that the body is not always a safe place to inhabit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As a psychologist-psychotherapist, I encounter this often. People come to me to heal not only a story, but also a body that seems to continue living within that story.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And this is the great gift of the book: it helps us move from \u00ab<strong>there is something wrong with me<\/strong>\u00bb to \u00ab<strong>something inside me is still trying to protect me<\/strong>\u00bb.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At the same time, precisely because its narrative is so powerful, a critical eye is required on our part to distinguish where clinical experience speaks, where metaphor speaks, and where we have more solid scientific data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>The idea I kept in a single sentence<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the ideas I took away from the book is that the <strong>human mind<\/strong> does not resemble a single, solid centre, but rather <strong>an internal \u00absociety\u00bb of parts, memories, defences, and needs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p
