Η the quintessence of self-awareness is recognising emotions and “decoding” them at every moment!
Our emotional world is our compass towards well-being.
The main goal of therapy can be summed up in one phrase: I learn what helps me and I do it more, I learn what does not help me and I do it less or not at all…
How will you learn what helps you and what doesn't?;
You follow 3 steps:
1) you live in the now, feeling your body where your emotions reside
2) you listen to the message each one offers you
3) you act in accordance with the message
Let's make a start:
I feel uncomfortable!
Perhaps it is telling you:
“Change something. From the position you are sitting in to the way you think about the given situation.”
Ask yourself:
• Can I view the situation differently?;
• Who could I ask who might be able to help me with this?;
Clarify what it is you really want. Imagine without limitations what your desired state is and start taking action in that direction.
I feel fear!
Perhaps it is telling you:
“A situation is coming for which you are not prepared.”
Ask yourself:
• Is my fear well-founded and helpful? What is it protecting me from? (e.g. I am afraid of snakes, so the fear is helpful because snakes are something that can be harmful to my health)
• How can I tell that my fear is not protective and is simply a false «alarm»?;
• What can I do to prepare properly?;
• Who can help me prepare better?;
I feel hurt!
Perhaps it is telling you:
“An expectation of yours has not been met and you feel like you have lost something. Loss.”
Ask yourself:
• Was my expectation high given the circumstances and what the other person could objectively offer me?;
• Did I fail to communicate my needs to the other person straightforwardly?;
• How could I change the way I communicate my needs so as not to get hurt again?;
I feel angry!
Perhaps it is telling you:
“An important rule of yours has been violated. Someone has crossed your moral code.”
Ask yourself:
• Might the rules I have absorbed from society (family, school, society, etc.) be too strict and rigid and not serve me?;
• Might I not have communicated my rules accurately to others so that they are aware of them?;
I feel disappointed or inadequate!
Perhaps it is telling you:
“Perhaps your goal is set too high. This is what we call «setting the bar high». Perhaps the strategy you have implemented is no longer working.”
Ask yourself:
• Are the goals I have set realistic?;
• Might the process of achieving them conflict with my other needs? (e.g. the need for financial prosperity conflicts with my need for time with my family because in order to achieve financial prosperity I need to work more)
• In what way could I «approach it differently»?;
• Who could I consult to give me a new perspective on things?;
I feel guilt!
Perhaps it is telling you:
“There is a moral value that you have violated.”
Ask yourself:
• Is there a reason for this value to exist? When I encounter it in my life, how do I feel? What does it give me?;
• Is the guilt I feel proportional to the event that caused it? (e.g. I feel guilty because I told my friend that I cannot talk on the phone right now but at another time)
• Αν όντως έχουν μια ωφέλιμη θέση στο σύστημα αξιών μου, τότε τι μπορώ να κάνω για να μην τις παραβιάσω ξανά; Πώς μπορώ αυτό να το επικοινωνήσω καλύτερα στους γύρω μου;
I feel θλίψη, υπερφορτωμένος/η, απελπισμένος/η!
Perhaps it is telling you:
Έχεις πολλές σκέψεις που τριγυρνάνε στο μυαλό σου, πολλά πράγματα να κάνεις μπροστά σου και πολλές σχέσεις να αντιμετωπίσεις. Είναι ανάγκη να βάλεις προτεραιότητες και να ξεκινήσεις με τα πιο σημαντικά.
Ask yourself:
• Τι είναι σημαντικό για μένα να κάνω τώρα;
• Πώς μπορώ να ξεκινήσω άμεσα με το πιο σημαντικό;
I feel loneliness!
Perhaps it is telling you:
“Έχεις μεγάλη ανάγκη για επαφή με ανθρώπους. Μπορεί να έχεις ανθρώπους γύρω σου αλλά ή επαφή δεν σε αγγίζει.”
Ask yourself:
• Πώς μπορώ να έρθω σε βαθύτερη επαφή με τους αγαπημένους μου;
• Πώς μπορώ να επικοινωνώ με περισσότερη ευθύτητα;
• Εάν δεν έχω αρκετούς ανθρώπους γύρω μου, πώς μπορώ να πλησιάσω νέους ανθρώπους και να κάνω νέες γνωριμίες;
• Ποιος θα μπορούσε να με βοηθήσει να τονώσω την αυτοπεποίθηση μου ή να διαμορφώσω τις απαραίτητες κοινωνικές δεξιότητες;
Ας επαναλάβουμε:
